Yesterday morning was January 1st, 2009. As I was rolling out of bed to make coffee, I stuffed my headphones in my ears and turned on the radio on my (completely functional) Zune. I caught the tail end of a new story on NPR and then they started a new segment about helping the elderly get around after they are no longer able to drive.
"Hey! That sounds familiar!" Turns out that they were profiling my main client for 2008, ITN America. ITN is a non-profit that provides a low-cost car service to the elderly. They started in Portland, Maine and have been starting to roll out their service to other metro areas around the country. As part of their rollout, they needed to upgrade their infrastructure and I've been helping them write and deploy the next version of their systems. They're an amazingly tech savvy organization and it's been a great project using all the latest and greatest -- Visual Studio Team System, Team Foundation Server, Team Build, .NET 3.5, Test-Driven Development, Hyper-V, SQL Server 2008, Windows 2008, NHibernate, WiX, Ajax, and service-oriented architecture (SOA) using WCF.
It was nice that my 2009 started off with such a positive story and I'm proud to have had a chance to help ITN out.
Here's the story on NPR's site.
